The 7th Annual Chesapeake Open was held january 9-11, 2015 at the Rockville Hilton in Rockville, MD. The turnout was up 20% from last year with 175 players in seven sections. The Championship section was headlined by 5-time US Champion GM Gata Kamsky. Kamsky drew his third round game against IM Leven Bregadze. Because the tournametn paid prizes based primarly on scores, Kamksy was motivated to work hard to win his last two games. He played a very long game in round 4 against GM Mark Paragua and was able to pull out a win in a very drawish position. In round 5 he was able to do the same thing in his game against IM Akshat Chandra.
This allowed him to have a final score of 4.5 and take up $1100.
Alexander Moises (2023) won the under 2200 section with a score of 4/5. The under 2000 section was won by Jay Lalwani (1624) despite him coming rated 24th of the 24 players in the section. Maryland high school player Justin Hontz was the winner of the under 1800 section with a score of 4.5/5. In the under 1600 another underdog, Jalil Buie (1136), was the winner with a score of 4.5/5. The race was a lot closer in the under 1600 section which ended in a five-way tie between Qiuhua Zheng, Michael Hu, Leiv Blad, Mantra Vivek, and Mankesh Menon. The Under 1000 section was won with a perfect 5.0 score by Ramesh Elavarthi.
