Other details: This is an official US Chess sanctioned event. It will be conducted in accordance with the current US Chess rules as promulgated in U. S. Chess Federation’s Official Rules of Chess, 6th Edition.

Note that the use of cell phones in any manner in the playing room is prohibited. Make sure your cell phone is in the silent mode (not vibrate) or turned off while in the playing room. Rule 20N1 refers.

No food or drink is permitted in the playing room while rounds are in progress. (Water bottle is ok.)

We'll likely take a 10-15 minute break between rounds at the halfway point after round 2.

Please make an effort to start games on time and report results to the tournament director promptly, as this will help maintain the schedule.

In the event of a dispute during play, STOP YOUR CLOCK IMMEDIATELY and get the event's TD to resolve the situation.

While we are primarily an adult club, children are welcome at all Frederick Chess Club Sponsored events. We take competitive chess seriously; it is expected that all players will exhibit good sportsmanship and respect not only for their opponents, but for the other competitors in the gaming hall as well. Parents are expected to lead by example in this regard. While we do not currently run scholastic tournaments, we do adhere to the USCF’s spectator policy for scholastic events. More details on that can be found here:
https://new.uschess.org/kids/spectator-policy-scholastic-events-organized-us-chess/

Note that our arrangement with the Frederick Elks Club imposes the following restrictions:

1. Children shall be escorted at all times by their sponsoring parent or guardian while in the bar area of the club.
2. No players or guests shall consume any food or drink in the bar area of the Elks Club. Those items should only be consumed in the overflow area (the dining room area between the bar and the garden room where we play). Note that the bar will only accept cash payments for food or drink for folks who are not members of the Frederick Elks Lodge.
3. Chess shall only be played in the Garden Room where the tournament is held. There is no other area of the Frederick Elks lodge where we have permission to play. Please refrain from setting up boards anywhere else in the lodge.
