Tournament Information:

  • Register here: https://caissachess.net/online-registration/index/7299
  • Most of the players in this tournament will probably be adults. However, this tournament is open to everyone (adults and children of any skill level).
  • D.M.V. area residency is not required to participate.
  • Four-round Swiss tournament.
    • This tournament will feature Monrad pairings, which is a variation on Swiss pairings that reduces mismatches. The use of Monrad pairings eliminates the need for multiple sections as players are often paired against closely related opponents, especially in early rounds. To read more about Monrad Swiss pairings, visit Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss-system_tournament#Monrad_system
      • Advantages of Monrad Pairings:
        • Fewer mismatches, more games against closely-rated opponents
        • Eliminate need for multiple sections
        • Anyone can win the tournament (lower-rated players are more likely to play each other, which means that anyone has a chance to win)
        • Less playing down (higher-rated players are less likely to have to play down)
  • US Chess regular and quick rated. Time control: Game in 25 minutes with a 5-second delay.
  • Up to two half-point byes allowed. Byes are allowed for all rounds. The deadline to request byes is before the start of round three.
  • The tournament begins at 12 pm/noon. Each round occurs as soon as the previous round finishes. The tournament should end around 4 pm.
  • Forfeit time: 15 minutes
  • Registration closes at 11:30 am on October 11th
  • Entry fee: $28 by 9/27, $33 by 10/4, $36 by 10/10, $40 on 10/11 (on-site registration closes 30 minutes before round 1)
  • FREE ENTRY to players over 2200 US Chess (email to register--$28 deducted from prizes)
  • PRIZES: $100 for 1st, $50 for top player rated below 1500 (unrated players may win this prize)
